Conscious + Creative: Couples Therapeutic Art Workshop

Are you seeking a fresh perspective on your relationship journey?
Do you crave a therapeutic experience that goes beyond the traditional therapy room? Perhaps you're looking for a nonjudgmental space where you and your loved one can reconnect, reflect, and grow—guided by Ashley James, a compassionate professional that is a Certified Recreation Therapy, with certification in trauma-informed expressive arts, and training in the Gottman Method.

Relationship Therapeutic Art offers a creative space for partnerships in all seasons—whether you're married, dating, engaged, or long-time partners. It goes beyond talk therapy by incorporating creative expression as a powerful tool for connection. Through art-making, couples can access emotions that may be difficult to articulate, explore shared meaning, and engage in a new, often more intuitive form of communication.

In our couples art sessions, you’ll explore emotions, strengthen communication, and deepen your connection through the power of artistic expression. My goal is to help you and your partner discover new ways to connect, heal, and thrive—together.

This unique approach offers a nonjudgmental space for couples to rediscover one another—fostering deeper harmony, intimacy, and resilience within the relationship.

In these sessions, you can be expected to integrate principles from frameworks such as Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), the Gottman Method, and other therapeutic elements such as The 5 Love Languages, that will inform our arts-based approach below:

Framework - C.A.R.E.S

C: Connection - focuses on collaboration to develop background information about each partner and the relationship as a whole.

A: Accountability - emphasizes the important benefits of self-care and how each partner defines their version of self-care.

R: Rituals - clarification of each partner’s values and how to work collaboratively with one another.

E: Empathy - learn about how each partner defines their own expression of love to maintain emotional needs.

S: Support - map out your journey of life both individually and together while also considering where you want to go.

Dates:

November 16, 1-3:30pm

December 27th, 12-2:30pm

January 24th, 1-3:30pm

February 15th, 1-3:30pm

4 SPOTS | Pet Portrait Holiday Ornaments

Paint Your Pet, Ornament Style!

I work with you to help you create an artistic representation of your beloved pet, or any animal you love. Choose between a wooden piece or ceramic bulb!

IMPORTANT: After you register for the event you will need to send ONE photo of the animal you plan to paint. Send it as an attachment to admin@worksfromtheheart.org.

The photo that you decide to use needs to be in focus, or as clear as you can get it, with good lighting. It is best if the photo is a close up and high quality.

RESERVATIONS ARE ESSENTIAL because I need to collect the images and sketch them prior to the painting day.

When we all meet to paint, you will be ready to go with your pet or animal image.

Once you arrive, I will work with you to help you select paint colors for your portrait. I will also provide some general instructions about painting with the paints, how to mix colors, how to use the different brushes, etc. I will also provide specific art instruction and guidance for your specific portrait.

The cost of the class includes all materials as needed to complete your painting.

Because I need to pre-sketch your portrait, and I have limited spaces available, there will be no refunds for no shows.

Today, we use everything from wine bottles and aluminum cans to glass yogurt jars and other one-of-a-kind containers, all sourced from our own home or generously donated by friends and the community. We never purchase new vessels—every piece has a story, and every candle is a beautiful example of sustainable creativity. Refunds
Due to the extensive amount of time to appropriate class materials and preparation, we do not offer refunds for missed classes.

One Person = One Project
Each workshop spot includes materials and instruction for one person only. Sharing projects is not allowed.

No Additional Guests
Only registered participants are allowed in the workshop area. Unregistered guests may not "sit in" or observe.

Missed Workshops & Rescheduling
If you can’t attend your scheduled workshop for whatever reason…

  • With 72+ Hours’ Notice
You may be added to a waitlist for a future workshop date. You will be moved from the waitlist only if the new session does not sell out. This is also dependent upon the workshop as specific materials might be required for different workshops.

  • With Less Than 72 Hours’ Notice
$20/person rescheduling fee applies to be added to the waitlist. Rescheduling is not guaranteed due to limited availability.

  • If Rescheduling Isn’t Possible
You may pick up your project supplies and instructions at the studio to complete the project at home on your own.
